PROCEDURE:

• i) Take 25ml of water test jar.
• ii) Add few specs of reagent P powder mix to dissolve.
• iii) (a) If PINK color does not appear, on addition of reagent-P, then P-ALKALINITY of water is nil (b) if PINK color appears on addition of reagent –P, then add reagent ALK-5 drop wise, with gentle shake after each drop , till PINK color just disappears. Count no. of drop of ALK-5 required for color change. Calculate P-ALKALINITY (as caco3) as follows
• iv) 1 DROP OF ALK-5=5PPM.

TOTAL ALKALINITY

• i) Take 25 ml of water in test jar.
• ii) Add few specs of reagent T powder. Mix to dissolve. The sample turns GREENISH BLUE.
• iii) Add reagent ALK-10 (or ALK-5) drop wise, with gentle shake after each drop, until color changes to PINK. Count no. of drops ALK-10 required for color change calculates TOTAL ALKALINITY (as CaCO3) as follows:
• iv) 1 drop of ALK-10= 10 PPM.

Uses : This test is used for to find the ALKALINITY of water in ppm.
