TESTS ON BITUMEN
Bitumen is defined as “A viscous liquid, or a solid, consisting essentially of hydrocarbons and their derivatives, which is soluble in trichloro-ethylene and is substantially non-volatile and softens gradually when heated”.
It is obtained by refinery processes from petroleum, and is also found as a natural deposit or as a component of naturally occurring asphalt, in which it is associated with mineral matter.
SMRPCL has the best facility to conduct bitumen tests at all laboratory conditions. Following is the list of tests we conduct as specified in Indian Standards as well as ASTM standards.
- Softening Point
- Penetration for Tar and Bituminous Materials.
- Ductility.
- Kinematic Viscosity.
- Marshal Stability and Flow Tests.
- Specific Gravity.
- Determination of Elasstic Recovery.
- Determination of Loss of Residue.
- Determination of Penetration of Residue.
- Binder Content by Ignition Method.
- Elastic Recovery.
- Separation Difference in Softening Point.
