SULPHATES
Procedure:
- i) Take 10 ml, of sample in test jar. (Sample to be passed through ion exchange column as per given procedure).
- ii) Add 40 ml. ethyl alcohol (or methyl alcohol).
- iii) Add 5 drops of reagent S-1 and mix. Water will turn light yellow
- iv) Add reagent S-2 drop wise and mix (add slowly, one drop at a time. avoid rapid addition) until color just changes to orange.
- v) Add reagent S-3 drop wise as above. Until color just changes to yellow.
- vi) Add reagent S- 5 drop wise and mix gently until color changes to orange.
- vii) Count the no. of drops of reagent S-5 required calculate sulph ate content (as S04, ppm) as follows. For color change.
- viii) One drop of reagent S-5= 5ppm.
Note : use suitable dilution of sample with distilled water if sulphate content is more than 150 ppm.
Uses : This test is used for to find the sulphates of water in ppm.
